Michael Mies
Michael is a Senior Manager (Prokurist) in the Risk Advisory practice at BDO in Cologne & Düsseldorf, specialised in the strategic transformation, implementation and assurance of risk management, internal controls, and internal audit functions for various industries and sizes. Prior to joining BDO, Michael worked as a management consultant and project manager at KPMG, Finance and Governance Advisory - Corporate Risk Management practice. As a member of the national Corporate Risk Management leadership team at KPMG Germany, his focus was on developing the risk practice in the region West (Cologne and Düsseldorf).
Michael holds a Master of Science in Controlling and Risk Management and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus on Finance and Banking Management & Auditing from the University of Siegen. He has been a lecturer at the FOM Hochschule für Oekonomie und Management, a lecturer at the KPMG Business School and is the author of numerous academic articles on risk management and international accounting.
Michael is a member of the European Accounting Association (EAA), the British Accounting & Finance Association (BAFA), the German Institute for Internal Auditing (DIIR), the Siegener Forums für Rechnungslegung, Prüfungswesen und Steuerlehre and the Economic Counsil of the CDU (Wirtschaftsrat).
During his undergraduate and graduate studies, Michael was a tutor for cost accounting at the Chair of Management Accounting and Control, a tutor for accounting and financial statements at the Chair of Business Auditing and Taxation and a student research assistant at the University of Siegen Business School.
