Application requirements

  • To apply for the MEPS program you need to have an appropriate bachelor´s degree that has a regular period of study of at least six semesters. The final average grade of the undergraduate degree should be 2.5 or better according the the German grading scale.

  • An explicit academic background in economics is an advantage but not necessarily required. Should you have no explicit or only a weak economic background we would like to ask you to document that your mathematical and statistical background is sufficient to enable you to meet the formal requirements of our quantitatively oriented master's program.

  • To successfully master the MEPS program, high levels of analytical writing, verbal and quantitative reasoning skills are required. To demonstrate that you possess these skills, please submit your GRE scores by either including a copy of the test results in the application or via ETS (the institution code of the University of Siegen is 8420). Please note that submitting your GRE scores is optional, but recommended.

  • If English is not your first language or if your bachelor degree has not been achieved in a program taught entirely in English, additionally a sufficient knowledge of the English language (level B2 CEFR  according to the Common European Framework) has to be documented. English language qualifications comparable to a 'B2 level' can be documented as follows:

    • TOEFL test results of at least 548 (paper-based), or 212 (computer-based test) or 79 (internet-based test)
The TOEFL code for the University of Siegen is 8429.
    • IELTS test with a minimum score of 6.5 points
    • Cambridge/Oxford Certificate: PET
    • English language qualifications obtained through at least five years of English instruction in secondary/high school like in Germany. You are required to enclose copies of your upper secondary/high school certificates, including course and examination descriptions of your English language course for these five years.
  • Application start: The application process for the winter semester opens annually on February 1.
  • Application  deadline is July 15. We strongly recommend non-EU applicants to apply until the end of May in order to have sufficient time for visa procedures. Thus, rather don't wait until the end of the application period but apply as soon as possible. Admission are only possible for the winter term.
  • Accomodation: Spaces in dormitories are relatively rare and it is an advantage to send a request without undue delay after receiving your admission confirmation if your are interested in living in one of the dorms. This is another reason to apply for the program as soon as possible. Further information on accomodation can be found here.
  • No Application Fee! The program does not charge a fee at any stage of the application process. Once you received an admission and in order to register you will have to pay the semester fee of around 280 euros to the University of Siegen.
