Network and Data Science Management
Welcome to the pages of the working group on Network and Data Science Management.
As of September 1st, 2025, the chair is led by the interim professor Dr. Sven Mallach.
In
its research and teaching, our working
group
deals with the quantitative and structural analysis as
well as with the solution of difficult decision-making and
optimization problems in the course of economic and
interdisciplinary planning and development processes.
One focus is on
operations research problems and methods, with a wide range
of applications, e.g., in logistics, transportation,
health-care, or production and manufacturing, which are
either industry-specific or cross-disciplinary in nature.
Here, we develop advanced solution methods in (integer)
linear and quadratic optimization, such as cutting plane
methods and branch-and-cut algorithms. In line with the
algorithm engineering approach, practical implementations
and qualified experimental studies are a common part of our
work as well as theoretical considerations.
Another thematic focus is on network and data analysis,
with the aim of gaining structural information and insights
as well as strategic decision support, e.g., using
supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods and
graph algorithms.
