Anonymous Payment with Digital Coins
The idea of digital coin is to map the property of paper money to the digital world. One of the desired properties of paper money is the possibility to (almost) anonymously spend the money and the difficulty to counterfeit money. As an example it is possible to buy food in a super market without revealing the identity of the buyer to the bank, or to the super market in the real world. However this is not the case, if the payment is conducted digitally by credit cards, bank transfers, or by Paypal in the digital world.
In 1982 Chaum proposed the first anonymous digital payment system [Chaum82] that is secure against counterfeit and many works have been contributed to that field since that time. In this system, a user can withdraw money from a bank and later on spend it in a shop, such that even if the shop and the bank collaborate, it is not possible to identity the spender of the money or trace the coin. This property is called anonymous payment. Digital coins are generated by digital signatures; therefore counterfeiting digital coins is as hard as breaking the underlying cryptography that can be considered to be intractable given appropriate cryptographic settings.
Ziel des Seminars ist es, einen Überblick über den aktuellen Stand der Forschung im Bereich anonymous payment herzustellen.
